IT’S SIMPLE. A win against Doncaster Phoenix and Selby RUFC will return to Yorkshire One.
The second-placed Swans travel to the league leaders tomorrow knowing promotion is tantalisingly within their grasp – and head coach Richard Nicholson is determined his side should keep their fantastic form going.
Since narrowly losing to Doncaster at home in November, Selby have gone on a 13-match winning run in the league and have also reached the final of the RFU Senior Vase.
Two points from their final two games would be enough to propel Selby back to the top flight in Yorkshire but the players are keen to do it in style.
“We are having a really good run of results,” Nicholson said. “Every one is very keen to keep that going. We also want to get that vital couple of points before we go down to Twickenham.
“There is no incentive needed. The lads are focused and very keen to get on with it. It’s something to get really excited about. From the players’ point of view, they can’t give any less than 100 per cent.”
While the rest of the North One East division have completed their programme, Pocklington still have one league game to play as they make a first-ever visit to Sheffield.
The original trip to Abbeydale Park was postponed because of the snow just before Easter.
Pocklington are without strong running three-quarter Tim Nixon and young forward Ben Stephenson.
They selected an initial squad of 19, bringing back half-back Henry Mitchell and adding experienced front rows Dave Birch and Shane Sellers to the mix.
When the sides met at Percy Road in November, the South Yorkshire outfit stole an 18-14 victory in heart-breaking fashion when they snatched a winning try in the fifth minute of injury time.
Pocklington, currently ninth, will end the season in sixth with a win.
Already-relegated York RI travel to Rotherham Phoenix in Yorkshire Three.
