Selby RUFC continued their good run of Yorkshire One form with a 25-10 conquest of hosts Heath.
A knock-on straight from the kick off resulted in early Heath pressure with Selby caught offside in front of the posts after only two minutes. Ezra Hinchliffe kicked the penalty.
Selby soon replied when, after great support play from man-of-the-match flanker Rihi Brown, second row forward Thomas Cobley thundered over the line near the posts for his second try of the season. Josh Cruise converted to put Selby 7-3 up.
More Heath pressure saw them held up over the Selby line but from the resultant five-metre scrum and a further three phases, number 8 Hamish Pratt was credited with the try under the posts. Fly-half Hinchliffe obliged with the conversion for the hosts to lead 10-7.
Again, the visitors were quick to reply. Cruise put Teihana Brown over for his 17th try of the season wide out.
Most of the rest of the first half belonged to Selby who threatened on numerous occasions to run away with the game but all they had to show for their efforts before the break was another penalty for Cruise after Heath were penalised for not rolling away.
Selby stretched their 15-10 interval advantage on 46 minutes with another Cruise penalty after Heath were penalised for an offside offence.
They widened the arrears within nine minutes with a superb interception try from fly-half Dan Porter. Some 50 metres out, he touched down under the posts – a feat he only narrowly failed with later in the half. Cruise tagged on the conversion with what was the last score of the duel.
As the half wore on it was Heath who started to dominate in the last quarter but Selby’s defence was good enough to keep them at bay and the match finished with Selby on the attack.
However, the hunt for the bonus point try proved to be in vain.
Elsewhere in Yorkshire One, York RUFC were beaten 34-18 by hosts Doncaster Phoenix.
