Pocklington RUFC got back on track with a convincing 29-5 North One East home victory over lowly Middlesbrough.
After two disappointing displays, Pocklington were quickly into their stride with an early try when a blind-side break was finished by right wing Billy Hardy.
Pocklington flanker Ben Stephenson drove over from strong pack pressure only to be adjudged to have been held up, but the home pack steam-rollered the Middlesbrough eight at the resultant scrum and this time Stephenson dived in to be awarded the try.
Pocklington were throwing the ball about more freely than in recent weeks, but the next score came from a rare Middlesbrough attack. Left wing Tim Nixon intercepted a visitor’s pass and galloped 80 yards to touch down.
Nick Bennett added a conversion and Pocklington were in the driving seat at 22-0 inside half and hour.
Pocklington wrapped up a try bonus point before the interval when Charlie Allen broke clear down the right and Hardy had a walk in for his second score.
Middlesbrough improved in the second period and stole blind to open their account with a try in the left corner.
But the home side came back with forwards and backs interpassing before Allen arrived at pace from full-back to blast over the whitewash and then convert his own score.
Pocklington then had four men taken off and another couple reduced to walking wounded. They had to play the last quarter with only 14 men, but nevertheless spent most of that time launching several promising attacks without being able to find another breakthrough.
