LIGHTNING struck a goalpost as York RI beat hosts Hessle 14-10 in appalling conditions in Yorkshire Four.
The visitors forged into a 14-0 half-time lead, their forward dominance leading to a 16th-minute try for prop Alexis Evrat, converted by Baptiste Briu.
Frazer Land then made a determined run to add a second try and Briu converted again.
Atrocious weather then intervened, making handling extremely difficult. Hessle kicked a penalty and scored a late try, but RI held on.
Storming forward play earned Fiffi Botchway the man of the match award.
