A FIFTH consecutive win propelled New Earswick All Blacks ARLC up to third in the Pennine League Championship.
Player-coach Jack Stearman and his men maintained their impressive run of form with a 46-22 victory at Moorends Thorne Marauders.
Moorends opened the scoring after two minutes with a unconverted try, but All Blacks hit back when a well weighted kick from half-back Liam Gargan allowed winger Ash Martin to cross in the corner for his first try for the club.
All Blacks then moved into the lead when prop Bobby Quigley powered over and stand-off Tom Holmes converted.
A downpour made handling tricky but the All Blacks were able to hold onto the ball well and extended their advantage when second rower Steve Doswell crossed for Holmes to convert.
However, Moorends levelled the scores at 16-16 at the break.
Substitute prop Stearman powered his way over and Holmes added the extras.
All Blacks stretched their lead when substitute hooker Joe Davis spotted the gap and powered over with Holmes again successful with the boot.
Prop Carl Barrow was next to cross, with Holmes converting, and two minutes later centre Jack Sinclair went over the whitewash.
Moorends narrowed the gap with a converted try, but All Blacks sealed victory when Sinclair crossed seven minutes from time after collecting a superb kick from Gargan. Second rower Doswell added the goal.
The All Blacks man of the match was loose forward Adam Kirby, but he was backed up well by Barrow and Gargan.
Selby Warriors produced an excellent performance in atrocious conditions – but lost 26-18 at West Leeds to remain in relegation strife in division one.
Selby trailed 12-0 at half-time but then gave their best 40 minutes for some time, with forwards Mark Hanson, Andy Rowe, Gary Watkinson and man-of-the-match 16-year-old Ben Copeland outstanding.
Watkinson and Copeland both crossed to equalise.
Leeds hit back with two tries against the run of play before Danny Simpson scored and Watkinson added his third goal.
Selby Warriors ‘A’ beat Wyke ‘A’ 24-6 in division seven.
Tries came from prop Daniel Gilbert (2), Lee Bennett, from a good Danny Milton pass, Milton himself, after good runs from Louis Heaps and Chaz Fothergill, and 16-year-old Fothergill.
Paul Berriman added two goals.
Sherburn Bears lost 18-0 at Chequerfield in the semi-finals of the Castleford & District David Poulter Open Cup.
