ALREADY assured of a North 2 East play-off match at the end of the month, York RUFC now turn their attention towards cup glory in tomorrow's "double-header" with Wheatley Hills.

The match (kick-off 3pm) not only counts as the Clifton Parkers' final Yorkshire One league game of the season, it also doubles up as the semi-final of the Yorkshire Shield.

After an entertaining 42-27 quarter-final win over Scarborough a week ago, York will have high hopes of the reaching the final as Wheatley Hills lie bottom of the league table with only six wins to their credit this season.

For anyone doubting whether York were taking the game seriously, club chiefs have named a strong side to get a victory in a match which is likely to bring a big crowd to Clifton Park.

Winger Billy Cakaunitabua returns following a holiday, while Andy Kay switches to back row forward in place of Ian Davies. Matt Hargreaves continues on the other wing as York are without Rob Kama.

Skipper Jon Sharpe, who missed last week's game, is on the bench but York's key men - fly-half Nic Ventress, flanker Stu Davies and scrum-half Chris Preen are all in the starting XV.

Third-placed Pocklington, who have arrived in the Yorkshire Two promotion picture with the kind of recent run most teams would dream of, travel to Goole knowing a win could see them go up.

The Percy Roaders must clinch a derby victory, while second-placed Heath must fail to win at home to North Ribblesdale, who themselves could go up with a win and a defeat for Pocklington.

If the maths are complicated, Pock's team is a much easier sum to figure out. Back row Al Stuart is at a wedding but former skipper Matt Atkinson steps in to replace him, while Henry Mitchell is also back in the squad after returning from Dubai.

Pock will go into the game feeling confident having seen off Heath, Knottingley and Leodiensians in their last three matches. But Goole, who have beaten Selby at home and have lost just twice on their own turf this season, will be a tough test.

Elsewhere, there is little left to play for. Yorkshire Two champions Selby round off their season with a trip to Barnsley, York RI have one final chance to avoid going an entire season without a win when they entertain West Park Leeds, while Malton and Norton round off what has a disappointing campaign with a trip to Keighley.
