IN-FORM Pocklington did everything in their control by winning 18-12 at Goole on the last day of the Yorkshire Two season, but they missed out on promotion.

Nearest rivals Heath won at home to North Ribblesdale and edge out Pock on points difference.

Goole, who had lost at home just twice all season, were put on the back foot by Henry Mitchell who was on target with two penalties.

Goole, who had never been in Pocklington's half during the first 20 minutes, cashed in on poor Pock defence to go in under the posts for a converted try.

Pocklington made a swift response by launching a couple of passages of expansive handling before winger Tim Nixon steamed up the middle and stretched over for Mitchell to convert.

Pock had the chances to move out of sight but Goole survived, including holding out when they were reduced to 13 men when they had two players sin-binned in as many minutes.

But Pocklington's pressure eventually told as centre Tom Stokes dived over in the corner. That should have been the signal for Pock to close out the game, but a breakaway try by Goole with five minutes to go kept it interesting and Pocklington had to work hard to the end.
