PUPILS from Millthorpe School have celebrated at Twickenham their success in a CBRE All Schools programme.
The York school was one of 12 from across the country invited by Canterbury, the kit supplier to England Rugby Union, to take part in a day of activities including a touch rugby tournament on the pitch - which Millthorpe won.
The pupils were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium before taking to the pitch wearing rugby shirts they had designed themselves at Canterbury kit design workshops.
The workshops were part of the CBRE All Schools programme set up by the Rugby Football Union to encourage more state secondary schools to play the 15-a-side game.
Women’s Rugby Union World Cup star Maggie Alphonsi and England players Lotte Clapp, Lydia Thompson and Lauren Cattell also attended the pitch day.
Chris Stephenson, CEO of Canterbury, said: “It was a great experience for the schools to spend the day Twickenham, and not only get to play on the same pitch as many rugby legends, but playing wearing shirts they have designed themselves.”
