Pocklington RUFC players and supporters will be turning out come what may as the club are scheduled to stage their annual Boxing Day town versus gown encounter – Pocklington against Old Pocklingtonians.
The match between the club and school old boys, which kicks off at 1pm, has grown into a notable festive reunion at Percy Road for former Pocklingtonians back home for Christmas.
The occasion is sponsored by the Old Pocklingtonian Association, which is providing the buffet.
Pock hope the weather eases and that the game will go ahead, but last year was also affected by the wintry Christmas white-out and the action was restricted to a game of touch rugby on the back pitch.
If all else fails, the organisers are exploring the possibility of some sort of indoor challenge.
Henry Mitchell, Pocklington first XV joint vice-captain and an Old Pocklingtonian Association committee man, said: “Boxing Day is always a great reunion. I’m hoping for a good game, but even if we can’t play because of the weather I hope everyone still gets down. It’s such a good social occasion.”
