MARK DAVIS wants to recreate his memorable UK Championship York run of two years ago.
The 19th seed, who plays Liam Highfield in the last 64 on Sunday evening, beat John Higgins and Matthew Stevens in a blitz to the semi-finals in 2012 before losing to eventual winner Mark Selby.
The 42-year-old said: "That was a really good tournament. I didn’t perform against Mark Selby in the semi but it was a great game against John Higgins and I won’t forget that in a hurry.
“York is a great place. The venue is one of the best we have got. It’s a little bit different now but it is still a great venue and a great tournament."
Davis beat Jak Jones 6-2 in the opening round but believes he will need to improve against Highfield, who eased past Jamie Jones 6-3.
“It was a tough game and we both struggled a little bit," Davis added of his opening match. "It just didn’t happen. I have been playing well and practising very hard for this - more than ever before.
“I have got a chance to put that right in the next match.
“Liam is a very good player. I will have to play well, do a bit of practise and try to find a bit of form. I know it is there and it will need to be against Liam. He is a very dangerous player. They all are."
