THE whirlwind was blown out at York Barbican as Ding Junhui sailed into the third round of the Coral UK Championship with a 6-2 win over Jimmy White.
The two-time tournament winner looked to be in for a tough afternoon against Jimmy White, who took the first frame following a break of 66.
But the match turned after a mammoth 61 minute second frame, which White had chances to win, before Ding snatched it following a marathon safety battle on the final black.
From there, the Chinese ace was always in control, a break of 105 in the fourth frame a particular highlight, and he moves on to play either James Cahill or Andrew Higginson in the third round.
Ding said: “It’s good to get through. I think Jimmy played okay. He had the first chances and he was a bit unlucky sometimes - he went into the pack and had nothing left after he played great shots.
“I also played okay. I took the chances when he missed and, under pressure, the important shots.
“He played well in the first frame. It was good to win the second frame. It put him under pressure and the third frame was also the same.”
