THREE time UK Championship finalist Ken Doherty fought back from 3-0 down against Michael White to book a third round clash with Ricky Walden. He came through 6-4.

The Irishman, who lost 10-1 to Ronnie O’Sullivan in the first final to be held at the York Barbican in 2001, joked: “I like a comeback. I like giving value for money. It wasn’t planned I can tell you.

“It wasn’t a good start but I won an important fourth frame. That settled me down a little bit. He’s a tough potter, a clever player and he is a very aggressive type of player. I just tried to concentrate on trying to keep myself together.”

Mark Allen, the 2011 UK finalist at York, swept aside Luca Brecel 6-0.

The world number six, who has reached four finals this year, said: “I played pretty well. I didn’t do anything brilliant but I didn’t do anything silly either.

“I had a gameplan to not take any silly shots on against Luca. He’s not the type of player who you want to let build up confidence.

“He is a very streaky player and I knew that if he got a few frames on the board, he would be hard to stop.”

Stephen Maguire had to recover from 3-0 and 4-2 down to get past Yu Delu and it won't get any easier for the Scotsman. He has got Mark Williams in the last 32.

"I was fearing the worst at 3-0 down and I didn't play well but I just managed to stick with it and his game faltered at the end, which helped me," he said.

"It was a massive frame to go 3-1, especially in the best-of-11s, and I cam back into it and he missed a few that he wasn't missing at the start.

"It will be a tough match (against Mark). I heard they are recovering the tables. The tables need doing. That was basically unplayable. If the table is nice and Mark and I play okay, it should be a good game.

Peter Ebdon also progressed to the third round with a 6-1 victory over Kurt Maflin.
