JUDD TRUMP will need no motivation if he faces Mark Allen in another titanic York rematch in the last 16 of the Coral UK Championship.

Beating Fraser Patrick 6-3, Trump set up a clash against either Rod Lawler or Allen, the man he beat 10-8 to lift the title in York in 2011.

Allen then beat Trump 6-4 at the Barbican 12 months ago and, while he said none of their meetings would have any bearing on a potential match-up, he admitted he would be “well up for it” if he met the Northern Irishman.

Trump said: “It’s going to be tough either way. Mark Allen has probably got a better record against me than anyone so I will be well up for it.

“If it is Rod, he is a solid player. He has had a good season and is a really nice guy. I am just going in with the mentality just to concentrate on my own game and try and get as far as possible.”

Asked whether he would carry memories from his UK victory over Allen into a new match, Trump added: “Not really. It is a completely different atmosphere because it is still so early in the tournament. For me, I just really want to get to the semi-finals and then it is kind of a different tournament.

“If you are going to pick (who you would want to play), you are going to pick the lower seed but, as I’ve said, Rod is a great player. His style might not be as good as me playing Mark but who knows?”

Trump raced into a 4-0 lead against Patrick, putting together back-to-back centuries in the third and fourth frames.

Although he had to resist the Scotsman after the interval, who recovered to 4-2 and 5-3 behind, Trump closed out the match in style with a break of 104.

“I don’t think I did a lot wrong,” he reflected. “I think he (Patrick) played pretty well for his first time on TV. You have got to give him a lot of credit. He made it very hard for me and, in the end, I had to make a good break to win.

“I felt good, I felt I was playing solidly but I am feeling confident so it wasn’t really a surprise how I was playing.”

Patrick, who had beaten Jamie Burnett and Ryan Day to set up the meeting with Trump, said: “I should have won the fourth frame. I missed a red on 59 and I had a couple of chances. I can’t really complain too much. I played quite well.

“I’ve had a few good wins. I’ve had a few good results this season and this week. I will take confidence from that.”
