TICKET sales have hit record levels for the Betway UK Championship, which started yesterday at the York Barbican.
The number of tickets sold for this year’s event surpassed last year’s total before the 12-day tournament even started.
The final on Sunday December 10 has sold out, with just a few tickets left for the quarter and semi-finals on December 8 and 9.
Other sessions still have availability but fans are strongly urged to book fast.
A spokesman for World Snooker said: “We are thrilled to see such fantastic support for this event from the people of Yorkshire.
"We have staged this tournament in York since 2011 and the demand for tickets has grown year after year, which indicates that dedicated fans are coming back each year, while new people are coming as well.
"The experience of watching snooker, with the atmosphere it generates, is unique in sport.
“The standard of play on the table is higher than ever, as we saw during last year’s incredible final between Mark Selby and Ronnie O’Sullivan.
"And the value for money we offer on tickets is the best available in any sport. While crowds continue to grow, hopefully we’ll be coming back to York for many years to come.”
