LENELL JOHN-LEWIS looks set to be back available for York City’s Vanarama National League clash with Solihull Moors on Saturday, September 30 (3pm).
York captain John-Lewis missed Tuesday night’s 4-2 defeat to Barnet due to personal issues, but manager Neal Ardley confirmed that all had been resolved.
Callum Harriott is still unlikely to start and will likely be on the bench again, whilst Ardley also provided positive updates on Quevin Castro and Jack Stott.
“Lenny will hopefully be all good.” Ardley confirmed.
“Callum I’m not sure, he’s probably rushed and he’s a fast fibre player that’s had a little hamstring here or there in his career, so you have to be ready that they’re to do what they need to do.
“I think he’s a very good option off of the bench, whether I start him injuries might tell you.
“Quevin is back doing some running today, he hasn’t gone into contact yet.
“Jack Stott was back into running too today, he didn’t join in contact.
“The physio will update me later on about what their next steps are.
“We’ve given a couple of lads an extra day off, most of the group were back in today but there were a couple that were rough that I spoke to last night.
“They sounded rough, so they’ve been given another day away from the place as we don’t want it spreading and they would’ve been no good to us.
“One turned up today and didn’t look great, so we turned him away.
“It’s no excuse, people get injuries, it’s not like we’ve got a 15 or 16 man squad, the first day I walked in we had a 32 man squad.
“I’ll assess it tomorrow, in one or two cases the shape of the team might be dictated by whether they are well or not.”
Ardley will focus on the performance of Saturday’s match, and hopes his defenders can improve their performance after defensive errors led to defeat on Tuesday night.
“I always say to the lads to not let the result affect the performance.
“You always have to focus on the performance, that’s not just the way you play, the other day the part of our performance that wasn’t good enough was the defending.
“Their goals were all not just one mistake, but three or four little things that ended up causing us our own problems.
“When we’ve conceded the goals we have compared to the opposition we’re playing that don’t concede a lot, it’s going to be very important with the ball.
“We did a good session Monday, not that it paid off Tuesday night!
“We did a fair bit of time trying to execute a game plan on Monday that we kind of didn’t, today was just about trying to get people’s legs back.
“One player covered over 13k on Tuesday night, we’ve eluded to the fact that one or two have been ill.
“It’s no good training them today and trying to push them too hard today, when the most important thing is getting them ready to go for three o’clock on Saturday.
“We can use video, which we have done today, Coxy (Neil Cox, assistant manager) and Macca (Tony McMahon, first-team coach) have spent quite a bit of time with the defenders and the midfielders using the video with certain situations, and what we can do better.
“The rest of it has been recovery strategies to get their legs back so we can train properly for the game.”
