YORK City striker Aiden Marsh will be back in the fold for the Minstermen on Saturday- and it could be his last appearance in a City shirt.
Marsh joined York on a one-month loan deal from Sky Bet League One side Barnsley in September, with his loan expiring this coming Saturday.
Assistant manager Neil Cox confirmed that the club will be holding a discussion amongst themselves and with Barnsley on whether to extend Marsh’s stint with the club, whilst also admitting that manager Neal Ardley is facing a headache with his defensive options.
“The physio will be checking everyone this morning, Marsh will come back into the squad." Cox confirmed.
“That’s it really, I’m not sure if there’s any injuries or illnesses until I get back in, we’ve given them a bit of a break after the long journey and getting back in at 4am.
“We’ll come in this afternoon, the physio will do everything and we’ll know more then.
“I am unsure (on Marsh staying), we’ll decide after this weekend.
“We’ll speak to them and see what they want to do, I know he went back and played a behind-closed-doors friendly against Manchester United the other week because he couldn’t play in the FA Cup.
“We’ll discuss everything, that game on Tuesday night came and stopped a lot of the things we were trying to do.
“We have to get organised today, we’ll sit with the manager after training and talk about what the side will be and the travel.
“Now Callum (Howe) is fit and Crookesy (Adam Crookes) is fit, and we look at Crookesy who is doing a job at left-back but we believe he will be a centre-back, we’ve got our four fit centre-backs all fit now.
“The manager has a dilemma on who to pick now which is good, people need to be put under pressure.
“When you’re playing and someone is behind you ready to go, that’s what we’re needing and we need that in every position.
“I’ve got my new boots out now and can play left-back!
“It is a problem, Crookesy does a job in there and we can do a different formation but we don’t have a left-back, Crookesy has been doing a job there and we need to make sure he’s alright as he’s just played two games.”
Cox also hopes to have Scott Barrow back available in the near future, but requires the left-back to get some vital minutes under his belt in behind-closed-doors friendlies, whilst fellow left-back Thierry Latty-Fairweather will be remaining on the treatment table for the next seven to ten days..
“Scott Barrow has trained, but we really need to get a game behind-closed-doors for him.
“He’s joined in the training but he hasn’t played in a game for a long time now, so he could play in a behind-closed-doors game.
“Our academy is an under-18’s academy, so I don’t think he can play for them.
“Not at the moment, he’s (Latty-Fairweather) still a week to ten days off.
“We’ll know more today because we’ve had a couple of days away from the camp.”
Cox also confirmed that the club are in discussions to help bring reinforcements into the club, whilst the City assistant boss isn’t expecting anyone to be departing the club in the near future.
“We’re in discussions, but haven’t got anything over the line yet.
“When something does happen and is fully done, you’ll be the first to know.
“We’ve got a few injuries at the moment so we need to be careful with what we do.
“But we are looking, will there be players coming in, players going out?
“We don’t know, there will only be players coming in if they fit us.”
