YORK City have secured the signing of goalkeeper George Sykes-Kenworthy for an undisclosed fee.

Sykes-Kenworthy joins York after spending the past two years at the Horsfall Community Stadium with Bradford (Park Avenue), making 88 appearances in that time.

The 24-year-old began his career in the academy of Sky Bet League Two outfit Bradford City, before enjoying loan spells with the likes of Stalybridge, Stafford Rangers and Guiseley in the Vanarama National League North.

Sykes-Kenworthy went on to make his Bradford debut in the EFL Trophy against Manchester City under-21's, before earning another appearance against Rochdale in the same tournament.

Following his release from the Bantams, Sykes-Kenworthy went on to join then-Sky Bet Championship outfit Derby County, keeping three clean sheets in ten appearances in the Premier League 2 for the Rams' under-23's side.

After departing Derby, Sykes-Kenworthy returned to the National League North with Boston United after a successful trial period, making seven appearances before joining former York defender Mark Bower at Park Avenue.

Since joining in December 2021, Sykes-Kenworthy has gone on to keep 25 clean sheets for the West Yorkshire side, and was named as Bradford's captain following the club's relegation to the Northern Premier League last season.

Speaking on the signing, City boss Neal Ardley said: “George is a player who I did a lot of work on during the summer, and he was somebody that when I crushed the data and watched with my own eyes, was a goalkeeper who impressed me a lot.

“We’ve had him watched live twice now by the goalkeeping department, and with the way we want to move forward, we believe he will be an exciting addition to this team.”
