MAZIAR KOUHYAR wants to make memories for himself and the York City supporters in Friday’s big Emirates FA Cup clash.
York supporters will be out in their numbers for Friday’s FA Cup second round clash with former winners Wigan Athletic visiting the LNER Community Stadium, with tickets selling fast after it was confirmed this morning that the South Stand had sold out.
The City starlet is back in the frame for Neal Ardley’s outfit after overcoming an injury setback, starting and impressing in York’s 2-0 victory over Oxford City seven days ago.
Winger Kouhyar is eager to have an impact after reminiscing on watching his boyhood club Walsall host Premier League giants Chelsea in 2015, and hopes to give City supporters a similar feeling on Friday.
“We’ve got a big game coming up this Friday and it’s a good chance for us to get into the next round, so I’m looking forward to it.
“My earliest memory, I think I was either on the bench or in the stands, but we was with Walsall against Chelsea.
"That’s one of the ones that really stands in my mind, we was watching Eden Hazard and it was a good day for us.
“On Friday, if we win then in the next round we can get some massive teams and it could be a memory for the rest of your life.”
Kouhyar hopes that York supporters can create a similar atmosphere to the 2022 Vanarama National League North play-off final, after a 2-0 City victory over Boston United booked City’s place in the Vanarama National League.
The 26-year-old has urged people to watch the match, whether if it is in person or on the television, with Kouhyar hopeful that his family and loved ones can tune in to see City host Wigan.
“I think I’ve said it before but the play-off final was for me the moment that I realised I was back playing.
“Playing football properly and big time football, I think to see the ground full would be amazing. For everyone to be there, just like the final, we would like to put on a show.
“Hopefully I can get another goal on Friday and have some new memories.
“It’ll be great, I’ve got a lot of friends and family that live down south towards the Midlands, so I’ll be sure to let them know to tune into the BBC and to watch the game.
“We’ve got a good team, they’ve got a good team that are two leagues above us, but that’s football and it can go either way.
“The boys are getting used to the way we want to play and the way we want to play as a team, Friday will be a good test against some good opposition.
“I feel good, each game I’m growing and my injury is getting better and better. I’m feeling fit and I’m ready to help the team.”
