YORK City boss Neal Ardley can see a lot of himself in talented Hull City loanee Olly Green.

The 20-year-old midfielder initially joined the Minstermen on an initial one-month loan from the Sky Bet Championship play-off chasers at the end of October, but has now seen that extended by an additional month.

Green has impressed during his time in the city, earning two Man of the Match awards across a period in which Ardley’s side have begun to exhibit some of the consistency he has craved.

He has made seven appearances for the Minstermen in that time, with the City boss left just as pleased with his work off the pitch as he has been on it.

“It’s great,” Ardley enthused to The Press of the decision to keep Green at York for an additional month.

“He’s been such a pleasure to work with, and it’s sad that you can’t always say that about young people that you have on loan.

“I’ve had various young people on loan and the way that they go about things isn’t right, or they haven’t been brought up with the right values in that respect.”

However, in Green, Ardley has a young talent in which he sees a younger version of himself, down to a hunger to improve in training and a player that knows his manners.

“Olly Green, he is a throwback to what I was like as a young player,” he admitted.

“He’s the first one in every day and is very polite. He always comes and shakes your hand after training or when he goes home, and says goodbye.

“He’s always asking questions and wants to improve. He trains hard and he’s an absolute pleasure to work with here.

“Having him around the place has been brilliant.”
