BILLY CHADWICK hopes to settle down at York City after returning to his roots.
Chadwick joined York last week after playing back-to-back fixtures against City for Gateshead, starting in both matches as the Minstermen played out a 1-1 draw and a 2-0 victory over their North-East counterparts.
The attacker knew of York’s interest prior to both matches, but didn’t let it affect his mindset, and was instead eager to show the City fans and manager Neal Ardley what he could do.
But after making his debut in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Boreham Wood live on TNT Sport, Chadwick hopes to settle down with City after moving closer to his family in Hull, with the 23-year-old praising his new teammates for making him feel included in the early stages.
“It’s almost like coming home, that’s one of the things that I thought about as well,” Chadwick enthused.
“I was at Hull for a long time and was going out on loan, and then I went to Stockport in the Summer before going on loan to Gateshead.
“Hopefully now I can settle somewhere and just crack on and enjoy my football.
“I knew a couple from Hull, the lads have all been brilliant and I’ve settled well.
“They all seem great and they’ve helped me to settle well, we’ve trained this week and everyone has been great with me.
“I knew Batts (Dan Batty), Ryan (Fallowfield) and Rory (Watson) were at Hull when I was a bit younger, so I knew them and they’ve really helped me to settle.
“That will help because if I feel good off of the pitch then hopefully I can show that when I’m on the pitch.
“It was before the first game against Gateshead, my agent told me that there was some interest, so I had to go into the two games knowing that there was interest from York.
“I kept it to myself.
“I almost saw it as an opportunity to show the gaffer what I can do, and to show the fans that hopefully he could pick me out and say ‘alright, we’ll have him’.
“You’ve seen what he’s (Ardley) done, so I’m just looking forward to working with him and improving every day.”
“I love winning in everything I do, it was a tough one!”
Chadwick also delineated on what City fans can expect from him, and how he likes to play after making an instant impression in Sunday’s Vanarama National League clash.
The tricky forward also spoke on the partnership he hopes to form with the likes of Dipo Akinyemi and Will Davies, and the strength of the league, which he has plenty of experience in having played for Gateshead and FC Halifax Town previously.
“I’m an attacking player so hopefully (they can expect) goals and assists. I just want to help the team as much as I can really.
“Anywhere across the front line, I like to play in a two striker set-up or off of the left, I don’t mind as long as I’m put in.
“I noticed playing against Dipo and Will that they would be good for me to play with because they are both good in the air, they hold it up and that can bring me into play.
“They’ve done well over Christmas and are going in the right direction, so I’m just looking forward to being a part of that.
“It’s a good league and it’s tough, anyone can beat anyone and it’s a good league.”
