CEDRIC MAIN is attracting interest following his return to the York City ranks.
Main returned to York after a half-season loan spell with Vanarama National League North outfit Blyth Spartans, scoring nine goals and contributing six assists in 16 games, after initially leaving the North-East outfit for City on a permanent in the Summer.
Manager Neal Ardley confirmed that Main, alongside fellow returning loanee Finlay Barnes, had been part of his plans for the postponed matches with both Dorking Wanderers and AFC Fylde last week, and that the duo could be involved for the Minstermen’s trip to Oxford tonight (7.45pm).
But should Main struggle for game time under Ardley, the City boss would entertain proposals, telling the Press to ‘watch this space’.
“Cedric has had interest from other clubs as well, there’s been a lot of interest in Cedric,” Ardley told the Press.
“His loan spell went well at Blyth and we have to watch this space, if it gets to a point where he feels like he’s not getting his opportunity because we’ve now got five forwards, then that might unfold in a different way.
“For now, they’re all fighting to get a place in the team.”
Ardley has been pleased with both Main’s and Barnes’ efforts in training, with the pair both named in City’s preliminary 18-man squad set to travel to Oxford on Tuesday night.
Barnes had returned from a loan spell with Scarborough Athletic in the National League North, where he impressed with the Seadogs.
“They’ve both been training well now and have both been named in the 18-man squad for the last two games.
"That doesn’t mean that they were necessarily going to get a place on the bench, but they have both been named in those squads.
“I think it’s a case of watch this space, they need to get in, show what they can do, show that their work ethic is where the lads have got it to now, they are both options.”
