FORMER York City academy graduate Ryan Edmondson has sensationally netted his first professional hat-trick in football - in just 22 minutes.
Edmondson was introduced by current side Central Coast Mariners as a 60th minute substitute in their recent clash with Cambodian outfit Phnom Penh Crown, in the semi-final of the AFC Cup Zonal.
The one-time York striker made an immediate impact to help settle a comfortable 4-0 victory, scoring in the 72nd, 78th and 94th minute to secure an incredible 22 minute hat-trick.
Edmondson was 'over the moon' with the feat, telling the Inner Sanctum: “It’s something that’s new to me. I’ve never played in this competition before.
“The last game was nothing to do with me whatsoever. The boys had put in a brilliant shift.
“They’ve done their effort and tired out an opponent and fortunately for me, I came on and was able to make an impact.
“It’s a full credit to the boys for what they’ve done in the first hour of that game.
“As good as personal milestones come, to get a professional hat-trick, yeah, I was over the moon, but I was even more happy with that performance and advancing in the competition.”
The victory sees Central Coast Mariners reach the AFC Cup Zonal final, where they will face Macarthur FC in a match that is currently ongoing, with Edmondson starting from the bench.
Manager Mark Jackson has previously worked with Edmondson in the academy set-up at Leeds, and spoke on how his new addition has settled into life in Australia.
“Since he’s come into the club, he’s settled really well," Jackson told the Mariners website.
"Ryan is still developing from a goalscoring point of view. We’ve got a lot of work to do in certain aspects of his game.
“But I’ve known Ryan for many years, I know he’s got the capacity to score goals. He’s got a fantastic attitude and he’s certainly settled into the group really, really well.”
Sit back, relax and enjoy all three of Ryan Edmondson's goals from last night's AFC Cup Zonal Semi Final! 💥

Harrogate-born Edmondson joined the York academy in 2015 and quickly found his feet, earning his first professional start for the first-team in October 2017.
Edmondson impressed as a 72nd minute substitution in a Vanarama National North victory over Brackley Town, before joining Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old has gone onto feature for Aberdeen, Northampton Town, Fleetwood Town, Port Vale and Carlisle United, who he gained promotion with from Sky Bet League Two in 2023.
Edmondson's career has recently seen the striker make the audacious switch across the globe, joining Australian side Central Coast Mariners.
