FORMER York City defender Graham Potter has reportedly turned down the top job at European giants Ajax.
Potter, who made over a century of appearances for the Minstermen during the early part of the millennia, has snubbed the Eredivisie club’s advances, according to Sky Sports News.
The 48-year-old has been out of a managerial position since being sacked by Chelsea – at which he was reportedly the fourth highest-paid manager in world football – one year ago.
Since, he has rejected offers from both Lyon and the Swedish national team and is reportedly among the candidates for the top job at Manchester United, should they part ways with Erik ten Hag this summer.

Ajax’s troubled season reached a new low yesterday afternoon in a humiliating 6-0 defeat to arch-rivals Feyenoord – their heaviest ever defeat in the Dutch top-flight.
Sitting sixth in the table, and a staggering 33 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven, the UEFA European Conference League now appears to be the Amsterdam giants’ only hope of European football next season.
They were also the victims of one of the biggest shocks in their history in the Dutch Cup, falling to a 3-2 defeat at amateurs USV Hercules in the second round.
Maurice Steijn was relieved of his duties at the Johan Cruyff Arena in October after a disastrous start to the campaign left them languishing in the relegation zone, with interim boss John van’t Schip also set to step down once the season reaches its conclusion.
There is also discontent off the pitch at the Dutch club, with CEO Alex Kroes suspended last week after allegedly engaging in insider trading in the club’s shares.
In a statement released on Tuesday morning, Ajax said that the board had learned that Kroes had bought in excess of 17,000 shares, a week before his intended appointment was announced last August.
