YORK City Ladies have exited the FA Women's National League Cup after a 3-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town Women on Sunday.
Playing at Tadcaster Albion's Young Guns Arena, an early lead from Ocean Rolandsen was quickly cancelled out by Scarlett McMahon, before Rebecca Beresford put the Terriers ahead in the second-half
A stoppage-time strike from Ashley Tiripke secured Huddersfield's place in the next round, with Chris Holloway's side set to turn their attention back to the league.
Holloway appreciated the quality of higher-division Huddersfield and felt that the second goal for Town was something of a sucker-punch for his players, telling club media: "I thought that it was a good game, we obviously set out a game plan and we know what a top, top side they are.
"For 70 minutes we stuck in there, got caught a little bit when the ball didn't go through, it caught us out, a little bit of indecision.
"We know what quality they possess across all areas and across the front as well, and the player has took it well.
"You could probably just see a little bit drain from the players when they have put in such a good effort."
York started the contest quickly after Huddersfield failed to deal with a corner, allowing Rolandsen to control the loose ball before hammering home from close-range.
Huddersfield responded just eight minutes later, after a scrappy corner fell to McMahon who couldn't miss from the goal line.
A slip up from Becky Sidwell almost allowed Kate Mallin to put Town in front, only to strike the post.
The match died down with City sitting on the draw, before a moment of magic from Beresford saw the Terriers attacker round Sidwell to slot Huddersfield home.
Yas Mason soon found herself one-on-one with Sidwell, but she couldn't keep her attempt down.
Tiripke rounded off the afternoon for Huddersfield's third with a composed finish from close-range.
A spirited effort from the Minsterbelles, who fall at the second hurdle of the cup.
