YORK City Ladies exited the Adobe Women's FA Cup with a 2-0 defeat to Handsworth Ladies.

Emily Senior's side were stunned by lower league opposition, who advanced to the second round proper after goals from Ellie Hollis-Bland and Katie Jepson.

The Northeast Regional Women’s Football League side currently sit below York's development side in their table, having reached this stage of the competition by defeating Brunsmeer Athletic AFC Women.

Speaking on the defeat, Senior told club media: "We are so frustrated. So frustrated, the first-half in particular was just not good enough, in the basics.

"It was nothing tactically, just absolute basics.

"Five-yard passes going three-yards, to the side of a player.

"Obviously the goals were again from corners, something that we have spoken about, it's just not good enough.

"We didn't deserve to come away with anything because of the first-half, but the officials in the second-half, some of the stuff I've seen today I have never seen.

"It was that poor.

York started quickly as Ocean Rolandsen found Hannah Shuttleworth, but her strike was smothered by the opposing goalkeeper.

Katie Astle had a strike cleared off of the line, before Becky Sidwell was called into action with a smart stop.

With City ruing missed opportunities, Handsworth took a surprise lead through Hollis-Bland, as a scrappy strike crossed the line from a corner.

Just one minute later, Handsworth doubled their lead as Jepson found herself unmarked from the corner and beat Sidwell.

Grace Sykes had a goal ruled out for offside, before Astle appeared to be fouled in the area, with the referee instead awarding a corner kick to York.

Handsworth looked to add their third when an effort struck the crossbar, but City would be unable to break down their lower league opponents, exiting the cup in a disappointing fashion.
