THE York City Knights Foundation has benefited to the tune of more than £6,000 from their latest venture with Barclays Bank.
It takes the total money raised for the Foundation via its partnership with Barclays beyond £8,000 since September, when the branch in Parliament Street in York city centre chose the Foundation to be a charity partner for the year.
The latest money – adding to the cash Barclays helped to raise during the club’s annual presentation night in the autumn – has come from the branch’s annual charity Christmas Fair, which was coupled with the Knights’ Christmas raffle.
More than £3,000 was raised on the day, and this money has been doubled by the Barclay’s Employee Match scheme.
Jack Stearman, from the Knights Foundation, said: “It’s a great amount and, with all donations, it helps a lot with our programmes in the community.”
Stearman’s development office – and therefore his job – has been put under threat due to Rugby Football League funding cuts stemming from a massive reduction in Sport England’s handout to the RFL.
He added: “With the situation with my job in the community at the moment, every little really does help.
“This was a fantastic effort from everyone connected with the Parliament Street branch and we would like to thank everybody involved.
“We’re looking forward to working further with them throughout the year.”
Those thanks have also gone to Herbett Todd & Sons and York Cycleworks, who donated prizes to the Knights’ Christmas raffle.
