YORK City Knights are hoping the return of crowd favourite Danny Brough to Huntington Stadium will be a big draw for supporters tomorrow night.
The Knights take on Castleford in a pre-season friendly but the Tigers are set to bring a team of youngsters as they also face National League One rivals Doncaster Lakers on Sunday and will field their first team then.
Brough, 24, is the notable exception as he brings with him Super League experience gained with both Hull and Castleford following his departure from Huntington Stadium just over two years ago.
There is quiet disappoint-ment in the York ranks over Castleford's decision to take all but one of their big-name players to Doncaster rather than have them on show tomorrow night, but head Mick Cook has warned that the Cas kids can not be underestimated.
"At the end of the day, a lot of these players played against Featherstone (in a pre-season friendly) and took them very close, and Fev will be one of our big rivals in NL2," he said.
"They're a good side and with a bit of influence from Broughy they will be dangerous.
"We would have liked a few more first-teamers in there but that's not the case and it will still be a good test for us."
Promising Cas youngsters such as Ryan Boyle, Jason Payne and Michael Knowles, who have tasted first-team action, will be pressing their case for a senior role, while The Press understands scouts from Leeds Rhinos will be at tomorrow's game to run the rule over "one or two" of the Tiger cubs.
Brough will captain the side, which will also feature Dean Ripley, who had a brief trial spell with the Knights last year.
Cook added: "They've got a very good youth system and a lot of these lads are full-time."
l Sunday's match at the Jungle between Castleford and Doncaster will raise funds for the family of the York-born former York and Tigers star St John Ellis, who died just over a year ago, aged 41. He was head coach at Doncaster at the time.
