FORMER York City Knights loanee Anthony Thackeray was in the reckoning for a starting berth for Hull in their Super League game at Wakefield tonight.

Thackeray came to York on a season-long loan but was recalled by the Black and Whites before Easter because of the injury situation at the KC Stadium.

The 21-year-old is yet to play in their first team but, after Paul Cooke's controversial departure to Hull KR - which was confirmed yesterday - plus injury to fellow half-back Richard Horne, coach Peter Sharp said he was in line for a call-up.

He could well come up against former York favourites Peter Fox, Matt Blaymire and Jason Golden, who have cemented places in the Wakefield first-team squad this season after their winter switch from Huntington Stadium.

Cooke's switch across Humberside was confirmed yesterday, just hours before the Robins met Hudders-field. Rovers coach Justin Morgan had left a space open in the squad in the hope the move would be completed.

It finally was after the RFL said it had been given evidence Hull's legal advisors had accepted Cooke's resignation and that there was "no valid reason not to accept the registration of Paul Cooke as a player with Hull KR".

They added allegations of misconduct against Paul Cooke and Hull KR would be referred to the RFL compliance commissioner.

Cooke is Hull's joint longest-serving player, alongside Horne, and has amassed 798 points from 221 appearances in his nine seasons with the club.
