YORK Knights head coach Andrew Henderson is hopeful to face a Betfred Super League club in the Sixth Round of the Betfred Challenge Cup next month.
The Knights completed a thrilling second-half turnaround to triumph 22-18 against Newcastle Thunder in their Fifth-Round tie at the LNER Community Stadium on Friday evening, a result that also leaves them just 80 minutes away from the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup final at Wembley.
Fellow Betfred Championship sides Halifax Panthers, London Broncos and Batley Bulldogs also prevailed in their ties, with the quartet now joined by the 12 Super League clubs in tomorrow night’s Sixth Round draw.
York cruised past NCL outfit West Bowling in the competition’s Third Round, before a monumental defensive effort saw them triumph 24-22 over Championship high-fliers Sheffield Eagles, playing 50 minutes with 12 men after Danny Kirmond’s controversial red card.
However, despite the prospect of facing reigning Super League champions St Helens, Challenge Cup holders Wigan Warriors or former side Castleford, whom he captained to two promotions in 2005 and 2007, Henderson hasn’t thought too much into who he would like the Knights’ next opponents to be.

“I’ve not even thought about it, if I’m being totally honest with you,” he laughed.
“You probably want a Super League club ultimately, a Super League club at home.
“It would be great to have some Super League rugby to expose to the York population – the York fanbase, but also to other people who may be coming to rugby league for the first time to see a Super League side here.
“That’s probably the ideal scenario, and one that’s well supported too, and that can bring some money into the club.
“That’s what I’m probably hoping for, but we’ll wait and see.”
The draw for the Sixth Round of the Challenge Cup will take place tomorrow evening (6:30pm), with England Women's captain Jodie Cunningham conducting it live on the BBC News Channel’s Sportsday programme. All ties are to be played on the weekend of May 18-21.
Ball numbers are allocated based on alphabetical order, with the Knights number 16.
Sides in the Sixth Round draw: Batley Bulldogs, Castleford Tigers, Catalans Dragons, Halifax Panthers, Huddersfield Giants, Hull FC, Hull KR, Leeds Rhinos, Leigh Leopards, London Broncos, Salford Red Devils, St Helens, Wakefield Trinity, Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors, York Knights.
