YORK Knights half-back Liam Harris is loving his rugby under new head coach Andrew Henderson.

Hull-born Harris finished as the Knights’ top-scorer in their run to the Betfred Championship Play-off Semi-Finals last year, and was rewarded with a new one-year deal at the close of the season.

The 26-year-old half-back has notched four tries and six goals in 2023, and is now just one score away from taking his York tally to 300 points.

However, while he admits that he never thought reaching that milestone was possible, it's not something that is playing on his mind.

“I never thought that I’d ever reach 300 points at York because I only joined for the season,” he laughed.

“It was like a week-to-week basis. I never thought that I’d reach that point.

“It’s a great achievement, but I think more about just how much I’ve enjoyed my time here rather than the actual figure of a points achievement.

“300 points is great, but I just look back on fond memories and the games, some of the games have been unbelievable.

“It’s a nice achievement. But I’m more grateful for the times I’ve had here.”

While Harris credited ex-Knights boss James Ford as one of the driving forces to his move to York, he is embracing the change to Henderson’s expansive style of rugby this season.

“It’s been good,” he enthused. “I’ve liked the change.

“You never know with a new manager, and that’s the frightening thing about it, but Hendo’s been great and is really positive.

“The group that we’ve got is great and everybody just loves coming to training. It’s a good place to be.”
