YORK Knights head coach Andrew Henderson is 'buzzing' to have drawn Leigh Leopards in the Betfred Challenge Cup quarter-finals, after defeating London Broncos 36-12 on Sunday.

Henderson has outlined his long-term ambitions for York, including reaching the Betfred Super League by 2025, but for the time being is very happy with how the season is going.

The Knights head coach is eager to showcase Super League ruby to the city of York, and has credited the players for their efforts.

“This is a real opportunity to write some history and write our own history, and we’ve done that today." Henderson enthused.

"This group has now got themselves to the quarter-finals stage of the competition.

"One of the things I was pushing for if we did win today was to get a home draw, so we could showcase some Super League rugby.

"As a club we have made it very clear to the wider rugby league world that we have aspirations and genuine ambition to be a Super League club ideally by 2025, but certainly in the future.

"A great opportunity now drawing Leigh Leopards at home to showcase Super League ruby to our home fans and to the wider public and hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves on that end.

“I’m buzzing, absolutely buzzing. It’s a credit to the players and it’s a credit to the team, they’ve earned the right to be at this stage of the competition and to say we’ve dealt with some adversity this year and some disruption this year, and with the injury crisis as well, we’re not doing too bad.

"One win from the top six in the Championship and we’re now in the quarter-final stages of the Challenge Cup and the semi-finals of the 1895 cup.

"I think there are plenty of things to look forward to for York fans, but also for our own playing group.

"We’re really excited that we’re still alive in all three competitions."
