MARK Applegarth feels as though it was “job done” for York Knights as star centre Jimmy Keinhorst signed off with a 54-12 rout of Dewsbury Rams yesterday afternoon.
It was fitting that Keinhorst, who will now embark upon a career as a train driver, scored 12 points - including two conversions and a remarkable try after the final hooter.
Applegarth, who rang in the changes after the Knights’ capitulation at Halifax last weekend, was well-rewarded with their joint highest scoreline of the season.
And he admitted: “We got the job done, and that was the ultimate aim today, to make sure we got the win and we kept our standards where they needed to be after last weekend’s performance.
"I'm happy with that, and I'm happy with most of the game.
“There’s still areas that we need to go chasing after, and some improvement in our transitions. I thought we gave them easy field position in that first half when we were competing for balls that we had no chance of getting.
“We need to keep working on our discipline, but ultimately, we scored 54 points so you can’t be too displeased with that. It would have been better if we’d have got them 54 points to zero, but ultimately, it’s job done.”

Dewsbury were on the back foot from the off, with the hosts having a try disallowed before impressive Wakefield loanee Joe Law touched down with just three minutes played.
And though the Rams’ first attack brought with it an equalising try from ex-Knight Perry Whiteley, Jordan Thompson found it just as easy to break through the visitors’ line before Joe Brown scored from range.
James Cunningham crashed over from dummy half to score his first try of an injury-hit season and AJ Towse also marked his first appearance in three months with a try before the half-time hooter.
But the second half belonged to Keinhorst, who added his name to the scoresheet from Brad Ward's sublime flicked pass before both Brown and Ward crossed the whitewash.
Bailey O’Connor scored another consolation for the visitors, but though Will Jubb crashed over late on with a trademark dummy-half dart, the final word was Keinhorst’s.
Nobody could have written the script, as with the Rams all at sea from Connor Bailey’s cross-field chip, he was able to evade a desperate lunge and score beneath the posts before adding the conversion.
