CHARLIE Severs will spend time away from rugby league following the expiration of his contract at Betfred Super League strugglers Hull FC, the club say.
He is one of 14 departures, including back-to-back Betfred Challenge Cup winner Carlos Tuimavave, half-back Jake Trueman and their third highest appearance maker of all time, Danny Houghton, who will retire after an 18-year-career with the club.
The 20-year-old has seen his professional career blighted by injury, fracturing his face in four places before being sidelined with a series of serious shoulder injuries.

Beginning his career with Heworth, he progressed though the Black and Whites’ academy and went on to make his first-team debut in their victory against rivals Hull KR at Magic Weekend in 2022.
He seriously injured his left shoulder later that season, but in a cruel twist of fate, lasted just 25 minutes upon his return in a Reserves match against Leeds Rhinos before injuring the other.
The back-rower though returned more positive than ever ahead of the 2024 season and headed out on loan to York Knights at the start of February.
He made his debut against Toulouse Olympique the following month, going on to score twice in six appearances under then-head coach Andrew Henderson – including a try from the wing at Barrow Raiders – before again injuring his shoulder in the closing stages of their defeat to Widnes Vikings in June.
Returning to Hull, interim boss Simon Grix admitted that Severs may have to re-evaluate what the future held amid the repeated damage to his shoulder.
He has not featured professionally since, with Knights head coach Mark Applegarth telling The Press that he had not been in contact with Severs since his appointment.
The young forward though last month stepped back into the amateur game with York Barbarians, whose coaching team includes Knights assistant Will Leatt.
He played the final two matches of their Yorkshire Men’s League Division Four season, including a Man of the Match performance against Sherburn Bears, as the Haxby Road outfit finished the season as Invincibles with 13 wins from as many matches.
On his signing, the Barbarians enthused on social media: “To have him choose the Barbs as the place he wants to play is quality. It shows the environment that Will and Brent [Ogilvie] have created.
“He will obviously bring lots of quality on the field, but his experience at the top of the game will give him plenty of knowledge to pass on to the rest of the squad.”
