LUKE HELLIWELL is set for a move away from York City Knights after asking for a transfer.

The former Castleford academy hooker-cum-half-back has been frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities since arriving at Huntington Stadium in the off-season, and a switch to Championship outfit Keighley – whom the Knights meet in the Northern Rail Cup quarter-finals next month – is on the cards.

The Press understands the Knights do not want to let the player go permanently, especially without a fee, but would be open for loan offers.

The news might raise eyebrows among supporters given the Knights have been short on natural cover at half-back following Chris Thorman’s injury.

The club have been keen to strengthen both in the halves and at centre, but moves to improve the quality in those positions have largely failed, with one loan target, Featherstone centre Larsen Marabe, having returned to his native Papua New Guinea after red tape over his visa prevented a switch to Huntington Stadium.

Such transfers could be among the issues open for discussion on Friday night when new director of rugby Dave Woods, head coach James Ratcliffe, general manager Ian Wilson and various players face Knights fans in the specially arranged question and answer session.

The event will take place in Bar 13 at Huntington Stadium, starting at 7pm, with the session taking place after first-team training. The live Sky-televised Super League match between St Helens and Hull KR will also be shown on the big screen. Admission is free.

Supporters are reminded all questions must be submitted in writing in advance, to be received by close of play today, at the Knights’ Roland Court offices, Huntington Road, York, YO32 9PW, or via email to ian@ycknights.co.uk.
