YORK City Knights will continue trying to get cult hero Dennis Tuffour back at Huntington Stadium after he was controversially recalled by parent club Hull.

The winger, who has scored nine tries in 11 games for York, saw his loan spell curtailed after the Super League club took him back due to injuries at the KC Stadium.

However, he was not named in their first-team squad this weekend and was instead put in the under-20s side – a move which would appear to be of little benefit to the player himself, who, The Press believes, wants to turn out for the Knights instead.

Knights boss Dave Woods said: “It doesn’t seem that this is looking after the player’s best interests.

“He’s not going to gain anything from playing U20s. It’s tougher in Championship One and better for his development, and this weekend’s match could do him the world of good.

“From Hull’s point of view, they’re looking after themselves and wanting their U20s to win games, but at the end of the day it’s still like reserve grade and what you need from them is to see players improve and push for the first team.

“It’s not so much about results at that level.”

The Knights were yesterday trying to get him back under a new agreement in time to play in tomorrow’s big match at Hunslet, though those efforts seemed in vain. If unsuccessful, the Knights would look to resume talks next week.

Woods added: “Hopefully we can get him back soon.”
