Points-machine Lee Waterman and hooker Paul Stamp might make surprise returns to the York City Knights line-up next week.
Waterman chipped a bone in his foot in the win over Doncaster on July 4 and had his leg put in plaster.
But the centre, who has bagged 22 tries and 90 goals in 22 games this year, wants to get back in training – after taking the pot off himself.
Stamp has been out with a knee problem since May 23 but, after some improvement, feels he could now play through the pain assuming it would do the joint no more harm.
Coach Dave Woods said: “Lee came to training saying he’s okay to play this week. But it’d be daft to rush him back.
“Stampy needs an MRI scan but he trained this week. Next week we’ll do some full contact and if he pulls up all right he might get a run in the reserves on Thursday.”
