NEW York City Knights recruit Matt Garside has been named in the 20-man Great Britain Students squad ahead of their two-match Test series against Australia Universities.
The first match is scheduled for Sunday at Leigh East (2pm) although the weather has put it in doubt.
Great Britain Students head coach Paul Fletcher, who has overseen friendly wins over Rochdale’s town team and the Combined Services, said: “I feel our boys are better prepared than ever after two tough warm-up games and our training camp at Liverpool University.”
The second Test Match is scheduled for the Prince of Wales Stadium in Cheltenham on Wednesday (7.30pm).
The Australian Universities team beat a France XIII on November 23 and a French Universities side three days later, both in Paris.
Garside, a Northumbria University student, is joined in the GB squad by former Knights reserve JyMel Coleman, of Leeds Met Carnegie, and York-born Pat Smith, pictured above, of Sheffield Hallam University.
Meanwhile, replica Knights 2011 shirts are now available for purchase and collection.
The first batch sent out by manufacturers Centurion and on sale at the Knights’ 2011 season launch last month were incorrectly sized but this has been remedied.
However, the bad weather meant the Knights’ office hours yesterday were truncated so fans should phone 01904 767404 before setting off to check that the shop is open and that their particular shirt size is in.
