A superb last-minute try by fit-again winger Tom Lineham completed a remarkable comeback as York City Knights’ second team drew at Widnes Vikings in the Reserve Championship.
The Super League-bound Vikings have won six from six in this competition but Mick Ramsden’s young York side fought back from 22-0 down after 15 minutes and 28-4 down early in the second half to gain a 28-28 share-all at Widnes RUFC.
The reverse fixture at Huntington Stadium had seen Widnes come back from 26-6 down to win 30-26.
Nineteen-year-old Lineham marked his first game back after major knee surgery by hacking on a Scott Woods chip over the defensive line, gathering the ball and sprinting to the sticks.
Substitute Dan Mole added his fourth goal to level the scores.
The Knights’ other tries had come from Dennis Tuffour, Kris Brining, James Haynes – who played 50 minutes as a warm-up for his return after injury to the first team yesterday – and Mole.
Winger Tuffour was one of the standout players as he fights for a place in the first team.
