HULL KR boss Justin Morgan was quick to praise York City Knights after watching his side overcome the part-timers in yesterday’s Challenge Cup encounter.
The Robins led 42-6 at half-time of the fourth round tie at Huntington Stadium yesterday, but York fought back to 42-18 before a Rovers salvo took them to a flattering 64-22 victory.
The Robins have endured some poor recent form in Super League but Morgan was happy with his side’s showing yesterday as well as their “professional attitude”, while he reckoned the Knights deserved congratulations too for their display.
“I think we addressed some things and scored some decent tries,” he said.
“We showed a genuine change of speed in our defensive line and put them under pressure. Conceding 22 points was not great but we won the game by 40-odd points.
“I have to give credit to York. They played the game with great spirit and kept turning up, especially their forwards.
“We’ve got to congratulate them. They tried to play some footy.
“Young Anthony Thackeray had a good game and the prop Nathan Freer showed up well.
“It was a good game and we got the result we wanted.”
Rovers’ reward is a fifth round trip to Salford.
Full draw: Huddersfield v Catalan Dragons, Warrington v Swinton, Leeds v Harlequins, St Helens v Featherstone, Wakefield v Castleford, Bradford v Wigan, Widnes v Hull, Salford v Hull KR.
Ties to be played on the weekend of May 21 and 22.
