YORK City Knights are backing a bid by Ampleforth College and Ryedale District Council to be a training base for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
England and Wales are hosting the tournament in October and November 2013 and areas of the country have been asked bid to host a game, training camp or base camp.
The council, Ampleforth Abbey Trading Limited and North Yorkshire RL development group have expressed an interest to host both a training and base camp at Ampleforth College. The successful bids will be announced before the end of the year.
Ian Wilson, Knights general manager, said: “Hosting a team would be fantastic for Ryedale and North Yorkshire as a county and the facilities at Ampleforth would be perfect. We would hope the bid proves to be a success to enhance development.”
