YORK City Knights have been dealt a huge blow with the news that in-form forward Duane Straugheir suffered a broken foot in training.

Straugheir, The Press player of the month for June, was injured in training at the weekend and could miss the remainder of the season as the club battles against relegation from the Championship.

In another blow, relegation rivals Dewsbury Rams closed to within two points of the Knights yesterday with a 40-34 victory over Barrow Raiders.

Michael Wainwright scored a double for Dewsbury, with Luke Blake, Matt Nicholson, James Lockwood, Rob Spicer and Ayden Faal following him over.

Matt James got a brace of his own for Barrow, with their other tries coming from Chris Larkin, Michael Knowles, Jamie Rooney and Zeb Luisi.

Hull-bound scrum-half Jamie Ellis scored 22 points as Leigh Centurions went joint-top of the Championship with a 44-0 win at Hunslet Hawks.

Ellis, who will move to the Super League club at the end of the season, scored two tries and kicked seven goals at the South Leeds Stadium, with Steve Maden, Stephen Nash, Tommy Goulden, Jimmy Taylor and Andy Thornley also grabbing tries.

Ian Millward’s men are now level on points with Featherstone and would be top in their own right were it not for a three-point deduction suffered earlier in the season.

Widnes Vikings leapfrogged Batley Bulldogs into third with a 24-22 win at the Stobart Stadium.

Ben Kavanagh, Paddy Flynn, Joe Mellor and Kevin Penny all crossed, with Steve Tyrer landing four goals.
