YORK City Knights’ potential make-or-break clash with Halifax at Huntington Stadium has been chosen for live coverage by Sky Sports.
The match, the Knights’ penultimate game of the Championship season, has been switched from Sunday, August 21, to Thursday, August 18, kick off 7.30pm.
The club will get a small payment for hosting a TV game but fees are generally swallowed up by marketing for a big crowd – and general manager Ian Wilson was keener the occasion provided Dave Woods’ men with an added spur.
The Knights could go into it desperate for points to beat relegation.
Wilson said: “It’s an opportunity to promote the club to a wider audience, and players can raise their games.
“It could be a must-win game, and we’ve done well crowd-wise with other TV games, so it’s a good one for Sky.”
It will be the fifth time the Knights have appeared live on Sky, and the third this year.
They lost the 2004 National League Two Grand Final – to Halifax – but won the 2010 Championship One Grand Final against Oldham. They also beat Oldham in a 2009 thriller but this season have lost at home to Sheffield and at Batley.
Day two of this year’s Ebor Festival at York Races is also on August 18 but the last race will finish two-and-a-half hours before kick off so should not clash with the Fax match.
