ASSISTANT-COACH Mick Ramsden bemoaned another poor start as York City Knights crashed 36-6 at Leigh Centurions.

Ramsden said the squad had been talking all week about the need for a faster start in matches, but York were quickly behind at the Leigh Sports Village and were 26-0 down at the break.

Ramsden said: “The last two or three games, we just haven’t got into them early enough. Leigh were very good in the first half and kept pegging us back.

“We were losing at the rucks and we spoke about that and needed to fix that area.

“We had a bit of a better dig in the second half, and we can only take positives from that.”

Ramsden refused to use travel delays on the M62, which saw the Knights arrive at the ground only an hour before the game, as an excuse.

“It didn’t have an effect,” he added. “We were ready to go. We warmed up well, and everything seemed positive in the changing room, but we have not started again.”

Ramsden labelled next Sunday’s trip to Hunslet Hawks as a “must-win” game.
