YORK City Knights assistant-coach Mick Ramsden reckoned his side threw away a golden opportunity to secure a second win of the Co-operative Championship season.

The Knights turned around a 10-0 half-time deficit against visitors Dewsbury to lead 18-10 thanks to three tries in six minutes early in the second half. But they ended up losing 32-24 to a Rams side only one place above them in the table.

The result cast York and bottom club Hunslet further adrift at the foot of the table.

“We threw the game away,” said Ramsden. “It was there for the winning. We battled hard to get on top 15 or 20 minutes into the second half, but then we went away from what we were doing well.

“There were too many errors, mistakes, and wrong options. That game was there for us to win.”

The initial turnaround after half-time was sparked by a superb 80-metre try by Tom Bush, who was back at his favoured full-back position due to injury to Jordan Tansey.

Ramsden said: “It was a great effort from Bushy and it was a good period for us. But then we went away from it. Our last-play options also became poor. There were opportunities to get repeat sets but it looked like we wanted to score with every play.”
