HEAD coach James Ford has challenged his York City Knights Under-18s side to prove they are a “great team not a good team” by completing their mini-season with a 100 per cent record.
The young Knights have so far surprised the U18s Championship league by winning four from four.
They entertain Hunslet tonight at New Earswick ARLC’s White Rose Avenue ground (7.30pm) in their penultimate game, and their last “at home” – though they cannot play at Huntington Stadium as that pitch is being re-seeded.
Team manager Jack Stearman said: “When we looked at it at the start of the season we said we wanted to win four from six games. Fordy’s now put the question to them, ‘Are you going to be one of the good teams that wins four from six or one of the great teams that wins six from six?’ “We’re missing a few due to holidays but the squad is good enough to cover it. Personally I think we can do it.”
Centre Ash Winstanley and half-back Matt Brewer are away and centre Ash Haynes is an injury doubt, but Heworth ARLC Under-17s half-back Harry Deighton is set for his debut having missed the start of the season due to injury.
Entry is free for season ticket holders and vice-presidents, or £4 for adults and £1 for U16s.
Knights U18s: Morland, Tomlinson, Minikin, A Dent, Stephenson, Hall, L Green, Stubbs, Carter, Parker, A Haynes, Hutchinson, Ellis, Deighton, Hewick, Fitzsimmons, Braithwaite, West.
