YORK City Knights Under-18s' 100 per cent record in the U18s Championship mini-season came to an end on Thursday night in a controversial 24-12 loss to Hunslet at New Earswick's White Rose Avenue ground.
The Knights had three tries disallowed and were held up over the try-line a further three times. The second half was also played almost entirely in Hawks territory.
Manager Jack Stearman was nevertheless pragmatic. "It's a development team and this result could be a good thing in the long run. How do you learn if you just win all the time?" he said.
Hooker Harry Carter, by far the best player on the pitch, scored both of York's tries, with Lennox Green and Ash Haynes adding the goals.
Liam Braithwaite saw a try harshly ruled out for a double movement, Alex Hutchinson was deemed held up when arguably he touched the ball down, and Adam Dent had a touchdown disallowed as the officials deemed the ball had gone dead.
