CHRIS THORMAN will be staying as York City Knights head coach until the end of this season as planned – despite yesterday’s developments at Huddersfield.
The Giants, whose Challenge Cup semi-final loss to Warrington was their eighth defeat in ten games, released boss Nathan Brown from his contract ahead of schedule and promoted assistant Paul Anderson into the hot seat. The change was supposed to happen at the end of the season when Brown takes over at St Helens.
Thorman and former Huddersfield number two Kieron Purtill are to be Anderson’s assistants in 2013 but, whereas Purtill is to join the Galpharm Stadium boot-room immediately, Thorman is staying put as per the original agreement.
He told The Press: “Paul knows I have a contract at York and I’m not going to renege on that.”
Castleford Under-20s boss Gary Thornton, the ex-Batley chief, will succeed Thorman at the Knights.
