LEE WATERMAN’S first full season in the semi-professional arena is continuing to prove a personal success.

York City Knights’ form as a whole might have stuttered in March but 22-year-old Waterman has remained on the boil enough to win the Press Player of the Month award, as voted for by Press readers and as presented before yesterday’s game by player/assistant-coach Chris Thorman.

He might have missed a few goals in last week’s loss at Doncaster but he capped a man-of-the-match display against Gateshead yesterday with a Knights record 12 from 12 to remain top of the Cham-pionships point- and try-scoring charts for 2010, with 12 tries and 45 goals from ten games.

The former Great Britain amateur followed his ex-Skirlaugh team-mate Brett Waller in being named Player of the Month, and the three bonus points this garners him for his Press/Northern Rail Player of the Year tally, plus the three he got for being The Press’ man of the match yesterday, took him further clear of Waller in those standings.

He now stands on 16 points, while playmaker Joe McLocklan got three points as man of the match at Donny and two more yesterday as our second best rated player, to go clear in second place.

The other point-scorers at Doncaster were Danny Wilson (2), who finished two tries, and John Fallon (1pt).

Debutant Dennis Tuffour got yesterday’s remaining point.

Northern/Press Player of the Year standings: Waterman 16pts, McLocklan 10, Waller 8, Ross 8, Thorman 6, Stamp 3, Blakeway 3, Freer 2, Reittie 2, Bromilow 2, Wilson 2, Applegarth 1, Hardbottle 1, Fallon 1, Tuffour 1.

THE Knights Supporters’ Club coach to the game at Blackpool on Monday will leave the Ainsty at 8.30am, Clarence Street at 8.45am and Huntington Stadium at 9am.

The price is £18 for adults, £10 for under-16s, or £6 for travel club members. To book seats, phone 07958 569266.
